Wireless Network

PLCS offers wireless network connections to district staff, students, and the general public in most locations.

1. PLCS BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

1.1. Android Phone

You will need to install a long life CA Certificate.  

  1. First visit https://pki.plcschools.org/ in your web browser of choice
  2. Click "Long-Life Root" to download the certificate
  3. Open your Settings app

  4. Use the search tool to search for 'certificate'
  5. Select the option that says "CA certificate"
  6. It will bring you to a page with many options. Select "Install network certificates".
  7. Navigate to your 'Downloads' folder and select the 'rootll.crt' that was downloaded earlier, then hit 'Done'.

  8. When prompted name the certificate 'PLCS'.

9. Open the Wi-Fi settings and select the PLCS – BYOD network from the list.

10. Fill in the required information.

      Identity and Anonymous Identity is your district Username

      The CA Certificate will be the one you installed in step 1 (PLCS)

      Domain: plcschools.net

12. Tap connect. 

1.2. Apple iPhone

 

Open Settings

 

Select Wi-Fi

 

Select PLCS BYOD

 

Enter your Username and Password

Tap Join

 

When this Certificate window appears, Tap Trust.

 

You will now be connected to PLCS BYOD.

1.3. Mac OS

Open WiFi settings

Select PLCS BYOD

Enter district Username and Password. Click Join.

Click Continue.

 

1.4. Windows

Go to WiFi Settings and select PLCS BYOD.

 

Enter Username and Password

 

 

1.5. Chromebook

Connecting a personal Chromebook to BYOD

Click Wi-Fi in lower right corner 

Click arrow to find available networks

Select PLCS BYOD

Server CA Certificate - change to  Do not check

Enter Identity - district user name

Enter district password

Click Connect

Guest devices

Guest devices are registered on the network for 24 hours.  After 24 hours, they will be prompted to register again.

  1. Connect to the PLCS Guest Wi-Fi network on your device.
  2. Your device should automatically open the registration page.  Please complete the form and accept the network use policy.
  3. Click "Register" once you have completed the form.
  4. The system will confirm your access details.  Tap or click on the "Click to Access the Internet" button.
  5. Your device will connect to the wireless network.  After this is complete, you will receive the confirmation page shown above and be connected to the Internet.

3. PLCS Secure

3.1. PLCS Secure

District-owned devices

District-owned and managed devices are configured to automatically join and log in to the PLCS secure network without any action from the user.  If you are having troubles with a district-owned device and wireless, please contact the Helpdesk with your concerns.
